This page presents the types of engagements carried out by our team members before founding Techgemony, during their time at audit firms, including Big Four firms. These are not engagements carried out by Techgemony itself, but the concrete expertise base our practice draws on today.
IT general controls audit (ITGC)
This topic covers the IT environment as a whole, independently of individual applications. Our experience spans three structuring areas: access management (who can access what, periodic access reviews, segregation of duties between sensitive functions), change management (control and traceability of changes made to systems before they go live), and IT operations (backups, day-to-day operations monitoring). This work was carried out both on engagements subject to US SOX regulation (US-listed companies) and on standard IT audit engagements outside the SOX scope, with experience on internationally scoped engagements including coordinating teams across several countries, notably in Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.
Application controls audit (ITAC) and IT dependencies
Unlike ITGC, which covers the general environment, this topic looks at the reliability of processing within the applications themselves. It covers three complementary dimensions. Automated application controls (ITAC) first: verifying that the calculations, validations and business rules built into applications work correctly and reliably. Interfaces between systems next: most IT environments rely on several applications exchanging data with one another, and our work verifies that these exchanges happen without loss, duplication or alteration of information. IPE (entity-produced information) last, a point often underestimated but central to modern auditing: verifying the reliability of reports and information automatically generated by a company's systems, which many decisions and downstream controls rely on.
Application migration reviews
Supporting an application migration project requires a complete methodology, from initial diagnosis through to post-cutover follow-up. Our experience covers this entire cycle: initial diagnosis and technical and functional mapping of the existing setup, defining the most suitable cutover strategy (phased approach or full switchover), data governance with clear responsibilities and quality rules throughout the project, data takeover and migration with verification of integrity and completeness, building a test and validation plan ahead of go-live, preparing a rollback plan in case of incident, and post-migration support (hypercare), a period of reinforced follow-up after go-live to secure the new system's stabilisation. This experience was gained across several different engagements, notably in the insurance sector.
Regulated assurance reports (including ISAE 3402)
Experience
The team carried out this type of engagement, including ISAE 3402 reports, during its professional experience at audit firms, for clients notably in the insurance sector, including testing IT general controls across various interfaces and applications.
Current limitation
Techgemony, as an IT agency, does not carry out ISAE 3402 engagements in its own name, as this is a regulated service reserved for registered statutory auditors. Techgemony can instead support a client ahead of such an audit (preparation, bringing IT internal controls into compliance), with the audit itself then carried out by a licensed third-party auditor.
