IT Glossary
The technical terms used on this site, explained simply.
ITGC (IT General Controls)
The set of controls covering the IT environment as a whole, independently of any specific application: who can access what, how changes are validated before going live, how day-to-day operations (backups, monitoring) are secured.
ITAC (Application Controls)
Unlike ITGC, this looks at the reliability of processing inside a specific application: do the calculations, validations and business rules work correctly and consistently.
IPE (Information Produced by the Entity)
Reports and information automatically generated by a company's systems, which many decisions and other downstream controls rely on. A point often underestimated but central to modern IT auditing.
AI Agent
What you're actually using when you chat with something like Claude or ChatGPT: a system that answers your questions and can reason, but stays within the bounds of a conversation.
AI Operator
Goes beyond a simple conversational agent: an autonomous system capable of planning multiple steps and acting directly inside a company's software (email, CRM, ERP) to carry out real tasks, reporting back to a human supervisor.
SLA (Service Level Agreement)
A committed response time based on the criticality of a support request. The more urgent a request, the shorter the associated resolution time.
Managed Services
Entrusting a provider, such as Techgemony, with the ongoing management of a system or site after it's set up: maintenance, evolutions and follow-up over time, as opposed to a one-off delivery with no follow-up.
Cloud
Hosting your data and applications on remote servers accessible over the internet, rather than on physical machines owned in-house. This allows more flexibility and better continuity in case of a local hardware failure.
Cybersecurity
The set of practices that protect your systems against digital risks: continuous monitoring, defining incident response procedures, reducing exposure to threats. A business continuity issue, not just regulatory compliance.
CRM
The software that centralises information and exchanges with your customers or prospects (contacts, history, sales opportunities), used daily by sales and support teams.
ERP
The software that centralises management of a company's core functions (accounting, inventory, purchasing, HR) within a single system, avoiding scattered tools and duplicate data entry.
Helpdesk
The service that receives and handles your employees' technical support requests, typically through a dedicated ticketing tool that tracks each request from creation through to resolution.
Hypercare
A period of reinforced follow-up right after a new system or migration goes live, to secure stabilisation and respond quickly if issues arise.
Backup
A backup is a copy of data or systems taken at a given point in time, kept so it can be restored in the event of loss, an incident, or an error. It's the essential prerequisite for any recovery plan: without a reliable, recent backup, a rollback isn't possible. Techgemony systematically builds a backup strategy into its engagements.
Rollback
A recovery plan allowing a return to the previous situation in the event of a major incident during a migration or update, to limit the impact on the business.
